Travelling in France and sticking to a vegan/vegetarian diet - The Vegan Twist
I just got back from a week of snowboarding in the French Alps (hence the radio silence) and had the most amazing time. There was plenty of snow, endless bluebird days, and so hot that I came back with a better tan than I did from Arizona. Imagine that. And the food… the food was pretty spectacular. However, even in 2014 it’s really tough to find vegetarian options on French menus (and you can forget about anything vegan). Everywhere we went, there were around 2-3 vegetarian options. Usually one vegetarian pizza, one vegetarian salad and sometimes a vegetable soup, cheese sandwich or fondue. Talk about death by cheese. That being said, we did eat some really good meals both on and off the mountain, and every salad I ate was so fresh and tasty – miles above anything you would get at an English restaurant (sorry, but true!). And the tomatoes… how are they SO much tastier over on the continent? I had forgotten what real tomatoes should taste like.
