Shop review: Currant Affairs in Leicester

February 16, 2015

UPDATE: as of July 2016 Currant Affairs is now completely vegan – woop!

Currant Affairs is one of those little shops that I walked by for years without ever stopping to drop in and take a look, which is a shame because now it’s one of my favorite places to pop into when I’m in town.

Located on Loseby Lane in the city center, this little vegetarian health food shop serves up home cooked food and desserts to take away as well as various vegan staples and pantry items such as non-dairy milks, tofu, nutritional yeast, noodles, miso paste, soups, candy, etc. You will also find an assortment of frozen vegan foods including sausages, pies, burgers and ready meals, to name a few.

You can almost always find me in Currant Affairs on football day – as I like to stock up on vegan sandwiches and treats ahead of the game. There are usually several different types of vegetarian and vegan baps already made up, with my favorite being the hummus and roast veg. I also love their vegan sausage rolls and spring rolls which are incredibly moorish – especially if you get them fresh out of the oven.

If you haven’t visited Currant Affairs yet, I definitely recommend stopping in the next time you are in the city center, if for nothing else than to pick up an incredibly delicious Vego bar!

One of my favourite shops, which I discovered the first time I ever visited Leicester back in 1996 or thereabouts.

Sounds like a great shop- I need one of these near to Villa Park for when we go to the football… It may stop me eating a hot dog instead!!!

definitely! I got sick of eating bad pub food before matches, and eating healthy at least offsets some of the beer, right? 😉
