Vegan pizza comes to Pizza Hut!

December 14, 2017

As many of you know, Pizza Hut recently rolled out vegan cheese to all of its UK restaurants after trialling it in a few select locations for the past few months. When Pizza Hut made the announcement you could feel the vegan community rejoice – particularly because we were all scratching our heads about their choice of where to trial the pizzas (“why not in MY hometown??”).

I really wanted to be one of the first to try the new vegan cheese pizzas, but unfortunately for one reason or another it just kept getting put off. It doesn’t help that the vegan cheese pizzas are only available at sit down restaurants, and not for delivery. I’m not sure why this is the case – but apparently (or so I’ve heard in the twitterverse) the reason is because the takeaway service is technically a different company(?)… Who knows. What I do know is that you can order pizzas for pick up though if you don’t want to eat in the restaurant. However, you have to ring up to order because the vegan cheese is not available as an option online yet.

Anyway, on to the pizzas themselves. Pizza Hut has two vegan bases – the pan and American thin. You can add any veggie toppings you like, and the cheese is my one and only true vegan cheese love – Violife. There is an extra charge of ยฃ1 for Violife, which kinda sucks, but isn’t a big deal. So last night we ordered a family meal (two large pizzas + two sides) as Andrew’s mom and sister were stopping by.

At first look I was really disappointed by the scant toppings. There were what, a handful olives and hardly any mushrooms on my pizza, although the veggie pizza was a little more generous. The cheese looked non existent but actually, once you started eating it you could taste all the lovely cheesiness so that’s good. But the veggies? Come on Pizza Hut, this is embarrassing. Don’t make me pay extra for “double” toppings when it’s so skimpy to begin with.

Flavour? Pretty good! Although by the time Andrew got the pizza home it was already a bit cold. Next time I will definitely pop it under the grill for a few minutes to bring it back to life. The flavours though were great, and it is so so so nice to have a vegan cheese pizza from a major chain, finally. I just hope they start delivering it too ๐Ÿ™‚

MORNING LINDSAY. THANKS FOR PIZZAS LAST NIGHT! DELICIOUS BUT AGREE ABOUT THE TOPPINGS AND HEAT. THINK PIZZA HUT COULD IMPROVE ON THIS ESPECIALLY AS THEY ARE CHARGING ยฃ1 EXTRA FOR VEGAN CHEESE! THE MORE VEGAN ORDERS PERHAPS THEY WILL REDUCE PRICE??

You’re welcome! I’m hopeful that they’ll take off and that more pizza chains will start offering vegan pizzas too ๐Ÿ™‚

Super cool news Lindsay, thanks for sharing that! That’s a step in the right direction that major chains are seeing the demand for vegan cheese. I haven’t heard of Violife before, I’ll keep my eyes open for that if I am ever on the other side of the pond again. Enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚

Violife is honestly the only store bought vegan cheese I’ll buy ๐Ÿ™‚

I have just ordered a pizza from here impressed by the fact they do vegan cheese.

    Just returned home…

There was chicken on my pizza!

Oh no! That is such a shame when that happens ๐Ÿ™
